Behind the Scenes
A unique feature of Yorkshire Air 999 is that the camera operators working on the show are trained to the level of Technical Crew Members (TCM). This ensures they can assist the medical team when required, helping to balance filming with the crew’s primary mission — saving lives.
HEMS Paramedic Sam Berridge shared how rewarding it is to capture the full story, including patient updates at the end of each episode. This adds a heart-warming dimension to the show, as viewers get to see how patients recover and how YAA’s work makes a real difference.
HEMS Paramedic, Sam Berridge, shared, “Over the past year, we’ve filmed a lot of our missions and gathered some great footage that really shows what our work is all about. It’s so rewarding to see our team back on the big screen after the last season of Helicopter ER wrapped up in late 2023. One of the best parts for us is getting to see how our patients are doing at the end of each episode—it really gives us that sense of job satisfaction. I hope everyone at home enjoys it!”.
