Our People
Our air ambulance helicopters fly seven days a week, 365 days a year. One helicopter flies with a crew consisting of a highly experienced Pilot, a qualified Technical Crew Member (TCM), a Consultant Doctor with experience in A&E with a specialism in Anaesthesiology, and two Specialist Critical Care Paramedics. The other helicopter flies with a highly experienced Pilot, a qualified TCM and two Specialist Critical Care Paramedics. Together, they form a highly skilled team that responds to those in urgent need or emergency care, starting their specialised treatment at the scene of an incident before they are transported to an appropriate major trauma centre or another hospital for further medical care.
A team of fabulous fundraisers and office staff work to ensure that our Charity continues to be here for the people of Yorkshire and is backed up by our wonderful family of volunteers, without whom the work we do would not be possible.
Our Aircraft
We operate two H145-D3 helicopters, G-YAAA and G-YORX. They are based between our two airbases, Nostell Air Support Unit near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
Our air ambulance helicopters are state-of-the-art, built and supplied by Airbus Helicopters. They have a bespoke HEMS interior filled out by Bucher to accommodate the needs of our crews. They have been funded by the generosity of the public through donations, grant funding, and the sale of our previous two helicopters.

Where Does Our Funding Come From?
It is a common misconception that Yorkshire Air Ambulance has government funding and falls under the NHS.
This is untrue. Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity that relies heavily on the public’s and organisations’ generosity to keep the service active.
Our Fundraising Ethics
Our main fundraising focus has always been to educate the people of Yorkshire about the service we provide and our fundraising practices. We always aim to be transparent about this, as we are purely the custodians of the monies raised by our generous supporters.
Helicopter Visits
We get lots of requests each year for us to bring our helicopters to visit various events across the region, the majority of which take place throughout the summer months.
To see where we will be landing and read more about how you can request a visit at your event, visit our Helicopter Visits page.
