The Hawes-Close-Knit-Friends meet every Tuesday in the Board Inn in Hawes for an afternoon of knitting and nattering.  Last year they created a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party complete with Alice, a Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, the Mad March Hare, a sleepy dormouse, a caterpillar and obviously plenty of tea and cakes!  The installation on a table outside the Board Inn delighted all the Summer visitors and locals alike.

The installation was so popular that the knitted scene raised over £1,200 which was split between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Hawes Christmas Lights.

The group are busy knitting and crocheting through the winter months but not telling anyone the woolly theme for 2022 – you’ll have to visit Hawes in the Summer to find out!

One of the members, Fiona Gill commented: “Luckily none of us has ever needed the air ambulance but we’re mighty glad you’re there.  Keep up the good work.”

Tessa Klemz, North Yorkshire Community Fundraiser recently visited the group and thanked them for being so creative in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance and raising much-appreciated funds and awareness in rural Wensleydale.
