Family and friends

A generous donation of £600 was given to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, in lieu of flowers, in memory of David Shuttleworth who sadly passed away in December aged 81 years. David was Leading Ambulance Man who was based at Northallerton station for 31 years. He started with North Riding County Council Ambulance Service in 1961, retiring in 1992. He dealt with many serious situations over the years which included coach crashes at Yarm and Helmsley and was involved in the 1967 train crash at Thirsk which killed 7 and injured 44. The local ambulance service was praised in the official report for their rapid attendance and the efficient manner in which the casualties were extracted and removed to The Friarage Hospital for their care.
At his retirement he said ‘He had no regrets and would do it all again’.
