Yorkshire Air Ambulance is proud to announce plans for a new, purpose-built Northern Air Support Unit at Skipton Bridge near Thirsk, a major milestone in our mission to deliver outstanding pre-hospital emergency care across Yorkshire.

Following years of careful planning and collaboration, we have secured a site just 3.5 miles from our current base at RAF Topcliffe. This new airbase will reflect the exceptional facilities of our Nostell Air Support Unit and give us a permanent home in the North of the region.

  • The future of our current base is uncertain, which is a concern to us. We need to ensure our future in this part of the region to maintain continuity and stability for our critical care service.
  • A permanent, YAA-owned base will provide greater long-term security, operational flexibility and service resilience.
  • We’ve outgrown our current facilities at RAF Topcliffe, which we’ve operated from for over a decade as tenants.
  • The purpose-built design will improve working conditions and support our crews’ wellbeing and training.
  • With your support, we can create a world-class base ready to meet Yorkshire’s future emergency needs.

17-year-old motorcyclist Katie’s bike collided with a car only eight miles from her house. YAA’s crew were dispatched from just five miles away, reaching Katie within minutes.

The team placed Katie into a medically induced coma at the roadside to protect her brain, before accompanying her to hospital.

A recent visit really opened my eyes to what Yorkshire Air Ambulance are dealing with and how much funding is needed to keep such a vital service in the air. It’s something most of us take for granted, until the day we might need it ourselves. Joining Power by the Hour felt like a simple way for us to give something back and play a small part in supporting the incredible work they do.”

The Biker Lawyers, we are what it says, Biker Lawyers looking after bikers following a road traffic accident. We are part of the community supporting and looking after bikers as are The Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Different pieces of the same puzzle, looking after people in our own ways when they need help the most. What the Air Ambulance do is amazing, and to do this without Government Funding is beyond belief. We are very proud to be a very small part of keeping the helicopters in the air.”

Phil Paxton, The Biker Lawyers

I’ve had first hand experience of the life-changing work of the Air Ambulance movement, and so when the opportunity to support YAA came up, I was delighted to be involved.  As a business one of our main channels is to provide a source of revenue for great causes, so this was a win-win.”

I became a member because Yorkshire Air Ambulance is very close to my heart. As both a horse rider and a motorcyclist, I’ve seen first-hand how vital YAA’s work is in supporting these communities. Becoming a member also offers the opportunity to connect with like-minded business leaders, which I really value. It’s a fantastic initiative and an excellent way to raise both funds and awareness, and I’m proud to support YAA in any way I can.”

Koris365 has partnered with YAA for 20 years, and I have had the privilege to be your account manger for at least 12 of those years.  I am proud to be associated with such a great charity but also an organisation in Yorkshire who everyone knows.  When I saw the opportunity to become a member, I jumped at the opportunity because I think it will strengthen our relationship, and hopefully with other members.”
