On 22 Dec 2018, a Santa Fun Run took place in Ripon to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Wonderfully organised by Ripon City AFC, over 70 people entered in spectacular festive fancy dress and £672 was raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The club has kindly rounded up to an impressive final total of £700.
The length of the course was 2.5 miles, and all participants smiled and laughed as they helped raise funds for the YAA. Hot drinks, bacon butties and cupcakes were on offer after the run, along with a raffle and great prizes. Event organiser and manager of Ripon City Ladies, Malcolm Bethell, said: “The feedback from the participants was great, with many saying we should do it every year, which we intend to do. I think people like to get together to raise money for charity in Ripon, and running seems to be growing in popularity – so to be able to combine the two things obviously brings joy to people, and the novelty of dressing up as Santa only adds to the fun.”
North Yorkshire Community Fundraiser, Olivia Mulligan, who attended the event said: “it was fantastic to be part of such a fun, festive event. The event was held at the Football Club in Ripon and the helicopters have landed on that field or surrounding fields many times. Residents of North Yorkshire are always so grateful for the life-saving service that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides, but equally, we are so very grateful for the generosity local people give towards organising and attending YAA fundraising events.”
