G-SASH and G-CEMS have been icons in the skies of Yorkshire for nearly 10 years now. They have served Yorkshire and its people well and between them have saved thousands of lives.
However, like all things, time is taking its toll on both helicopters, and the time has come for them to be replaced with brand new, state-of-the-art replacement models – the Airbus H145.
However, we couldn’t just let G-SASH and G-CEMS go into retirement without marking their time in service with us. So working with Harrogate based artist, Anita Bowerman, we have commissioned two special pieces of artwork to commemorate both helicopters.
In the first of the two pieces, Anita has produced a special piece of her signature intricate paper cut art depicting the two helicopters flying over a rural scene as people look up and wave. This piece took her tens of hours to complete, hand-cutting and then painting every detail including wild flowers, butterflies and bees.
“I wanted to capture the love and thanks we all feel for the helicopters so you can see children and adults waving flags as ‘We thank you’ is seen on the landing pad,” said Anita.
“My love of paper cutting and painting have come together here for the very first time in this paper cut and I am very pleased with the result.”
For the second piece, Anita has used gouache, a very thick watercolour, to create a contemporary painting in vibrant and uplifting colours of G-SASH and G-SEMS flying over the iconic White Horse landmark at Kilburn.
“The Kilburn White Horse is a renowned Yorkshire landmark loved by all and seen for miles from the air and on the ground. I created this painting in gouache, a very thick watercolour choosing bright uplifting colours in a contemporary style. The colours complement Sash and Cems - the bright yellow helicopters as they "Fly High" over this iconic landmark for the last time.”
We have a limited edition, high-quality giclee print of each of the artworks available for our supporters to purchase. There will only be 250 of each design available and each print is personally numbered and signed by Anita herself. The prints measure 30cm by 30cm and come complete with a white, circular mount. The cost also includes postage. Please note that due to the size of the print and mount, they are unable to be posted through a letterbox or left in a post box. They will be sent via Royal Mail.
The giclee prints are priced at £40 each (inc P&P) and come with a protective cellophane bag and packed in a re-enforced envelope for safe delivery. We are also offering the opportunity for supporters to buy both prints for a special price of £70 (inc P&P), saving £10 on the purchase price.
